damage to countershaft bearing cover

Postby Arturo63 on Mon Nov 02, 2009 4:18 pm

I bought a 1999 Nighthawk 750 a couple months back. In detailing it out I found that at sometime either a chain had broken or something had caused damage to the countershaft bearing cover and the outer drive sprocket cover. The previous owner did a fix that is hard to notice and it would probably be OK to just leave it as repaired. I have found sources on line for a new set of covers. Question is, the Clymer manual says the engine needs to be removed from the frame to replace the inner countershaft bearing cover. When I look at this on the engine it seems like the bearing cover can be removed with the engine in the frame.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Not much activity on this site, but no replies saying I needed to remove the engine form the frame so I forged ahead. SHS Powersports of Grand Rapids, Michigan , www.shspowersports.com had all the OEM Honda parts to my doorstep in less than a week. I was able to remove the damaged countershaft bearing cover without shifting the engine in the frame but it sure would have been easier doing it as the "Clymer" manual states. So after a days labor, "I'm slow", the Nighthawk is back together and shined and ready for some good rides.
